I was born in Petit-Jean, a French colony in Morocco. My family moved to Canada when I was a toddler, which is where I was introduced to the Adventures of Asterix, Lucky Luke, Tintin books and other Franco-Belgian comic books. I spent an ungodly number of hours at the local library roaming through the pages of French comic books and loving every minute of it. When I was 13, we moved to the United States where French comic books and merchandise were hard to find at that time. I'm glad that these books in French, English and other languages are easier to find today.

My favorite French comic book series is Asterix because as a kid, and now as an adult, I find the adventures so hilarious, witty and intelligent, the characters so rich in personality, and the illustrations are beautiful works of art. I have the entire Asterix collection in French which I treasure. The Adventures of Tintin, Lucky Luke and many others are just as entertaining and engaging. These comic book series were truly written for young and old alike.

My son hardly ever read books as a child until I bought him his first Tintin comic book in English. He is now 19 and treasures his own collection. If you are learning French, Tintin, Asterix, Lucky Luke... are all great comics for reading at a French 2 level. The pictures and writing combination make it easy to follow the stories and practice your French. Many Americans are not aware of the diversity, quality and quantity of French comic books. My goal is to provide a glimpse in to some of my favorite French comic books.
